Gossip is an ugly thing.
Sometimes it is a very hurtful thing.
I really don’t know why people feel the need to talk about others, but they do and targeting the preacher’s family is about as easy of a target as they come.
Are you moving? I heard you guys were moving….
Who did you hear that from?
Oh, you know… mutual friends. So, are you?
I heard your house was all packed up and you guys are going to leave in the middle of the night… I heard your kids are starting a new school… like tomorrow. I heard….
NOBODY needs to be talked about, ESPECIALLY a preacher’s family! They have SO much going on- stuff that you will NEVER know about much less understand- that they don’t need the extra drama of chitter chatter.
“In the multitude of words sin is not lacking, But he who restrains his lips is wise.” Proverbs 10:19
Trust me, when (if) someone wants you to know something, they’ll make it known. If you don’t hear from them directly, don’t repeat.
Instead of gossiping, pray. Pray for the person being talked about. Pray for the one you heard it from.
Go ahead, right now. Pray. Somebody needs your prayers right now. It may be your pastor, his wife, or their kids… It may be the fellow church member that sits at the end of your pew. It may be your neighbor or the lady that checks you out at Walmart. Stop what you’re doing and let the Holy Spirit prompt you in your prayer…
Have you been gossiped about? How did you handle it?
